Former Dutch winger Arjen Robben showed he was still very fast when he completed the Rotterdam Marathon.
Robben’s impressive goals
Arjen Robben played for the biggest clubs in Europe and had the most successful time with Bayern Munich.
As a player, he was most famous for his unstoppable sprints.
Recently, this former midfielder made headlines when he attended the local marathon, which was also the first race in his life.
Starting as one of 11,720 runners, Robben sped up at around 14km/h for most of the roughly 42km track, putting him well above the tournament average.
The 38-year-old’s pace dropped significantly in some stages, then increased sharply in the final stage, with Robben impressively crossing the finish line after 3 hours and 14 minutes.
When asked if he enjoyed the experience, Robben said: “Not fun – it’s really not fun. I made it, but it’s still the same.”
He added: “I often go deep, but it’s also a real fight. The audience is there to help you out a lot. Thank you everyone for that – it got me through.”
Considering 9,187 men competed, Robben finished 1,280.
Meanwhile, if you consider the age group 35-39, including 1,313 athletes, he finished 268th.
Robben was once the fastest player in the world when he reached a speed of 37 km / h in the Netherlands vs Spain match in the 2014 World Cup.
