Ronald de Boer witnessed a Rangers team of distinction under the guidance of his old friend Gio Van Bronckhorst.
They changed the system a bit and used the wingers a bit more. They’re a bit more dynamic than when Steven was in charge.
But Steven also deserves credit because he was the one who laid the foundation for this Rangers team and let Gio take over.
With the outstanding quality Gio and his staff brought, they were able to make it to the finals.
Does Gio have to think twice about replacing someone like Gerrard? Of course yes because when you walk in everything is fine.
There are not many mistakes. Usually, if you become a new coach when things are not going well, there is a lot to improve.
For example, Ten Hag is going to United, there are many areas where he can take the team forward.
But with Rangers, they are champions, doing well in Europe but no one expected them to be able to achieve what Gio has done now.
So I think it’s a risk for him.
I know from playing for clubs like Rangers, Ajax, Barcelona that the only important thing is to win the league. That’s all that matters.
Of course, that’s not going to happen with Rangers this season but I think it will be more than heartbreaking if they can win the Europa League.
If they were given a choice, I think the fans would pick that Europa League trophy in the Cup Room at Ibrox instead of the tournament!
