Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will compete with Edouard Mendy and Gianluigi Donnarumma for the FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award of 2021.
Recently, FIFA has announced the shortlist of 3 final candidates for the Best Men’s Goalkeeper award in 2021. This award will be awarded during the FIFA The Best awards ceremony on February 17.
Accordingly, the three finalists included Neuer, Mendy and Donnarumma. If Neuer is so familiar with this award and has been honored in 2020, Mendy and Donnarumma have never been shortlisted for the award.
However, the two goalkeepers of Chelsea and PSG have both made their mark in 2021. Mendy has won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, and finished second in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Donnarumma joined PSG from AC Milan after winning with Italy at EURO 2020.
The nominations for the women’s award have also been revealed ahead of an online ceremony in Zurich on January 17. Chelsea’s Ann-Katrin Berger hopes to score a brace for the Stamford Bridge side.
Lyon’s Christiane Endler and PSG’s Stephanie Lynn Marie Labbe are the other two contenders for the FIFA Best Female Goalkeeper award. Last year, the honoree was Sarah Bouhaddi of Reign.
The Men’s and Women’s Goalkeepers of the Year awards are chosen by an international jury consisting of national team coaches, national team captains and an expert journalist from each registered territory. FIFA.com.
On Tuesday, the three finalists for the Goal of the Year award (the Puskas Award) were revealed. Erik Lamela, Patrik Schick and Mehdi Taremi are contenders for the title.
At the end of this week, the shortlists for FIFA The Best 2021 Men’s Player and Best Women’s Player awards will also be revealed.
