Man Utd’s lost star bloomed late, played explosively with 20 goals

Manchester United once owned one of the talented young players, promising a future in attack.

Coach Ralf Rangnick talks about Marcus Rashford

With 35 goals for the Man Utd U23 team, Will Keane was once appreciated. However, this player has only had 3 appearances for the first team of Man Utd.

A rather severe ligament injury for the first time in his career while playing for England Under-18s has hindered Keane’s development. It was just one of a number of injuries the player had to endure, including a groin surgery.

 Keane is coming back strong.

Disappointing loan spells combined with the rise of Marcus Rashford led to Jose Mourinho’s decision to sell Keane in August 2016. Former Man Utd assistant then Mike Phelan signed Keane for Hull City for only 1 million pounds.

Three months later, Keane tore another ligament. Thought that was the end of this player’s career. But things are slowly getting better. Keane currently plays for Wigan Athletic, where he signed in 2020 after a season at Ipswich Town.

And now in the 2021/22 season, this striker is enjoying the best football of his career. Keane hit the 20-goal mark for the first time this season , with 19 in League One and another in the EFL Trophy.

Last season, Keane began to show positive signs when he scored 11 goals for Wigan. This is more than the 6 goals he has for Ipswich. Obviously, it’s never too late for a player to really shine.

Late last year, Keane was called up to the Republic of Ireland team for the first time. Keane has represented England from U16 to U20 levels. However, this striker must change to do what is best for himself.

Keane was even called up to the squad.

Keane is back in the Republic of Ireland squad this week, hoping to make his mark in friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania.

Coach Stephen Kenny said: “Right now he is reaching his full potential. He didn’t even play as a pure striker and had 20 goals. He played in many different roles and performed wonderfully.”

Keane got his breakthrough late, but he’s right to hope he’ll follow Jamie Vardy’s path again. Keane insists: “Vardy didn’t play in the Premier League until he was 27.

Teddy Sheringham plays football in his 40s. You can see Zlatan Ibrahimovic still doing it at AC Milan. He’s a role model, despite a ligament injury.”

The Carrington-born player may be one of Man Utd’s lost talents, but he finally seems to have found himself at the age of 29.

It should be known that Keane’s excellence helps Wigan to take 2nd place in League One, 1 point behind Rotherham and full of hope to win promotion ticket to Championship next season.
